3 orders, 7 families, 8 genera, 9 species
Sampling periods: March 1971 to June 1972, October 1984 to December 1985, 1992, 2002
Wedler (1973), based on samples collected between March 1971 and June 1972, documented the presence of four species. Campos et al. (2004, Table 5.1), based on Reyes (1992, unpublished) and own studies in 2002, recorded five species within the CGSM lagoon complex.
Blanco et al. (1994) were the first to report on the Banco de las Ánimas Reef, located in the Gulf of Salamanca within the CGSM Ecoregion, following their research conducted from October 1991 to March 1992. Their observations indicated a seabed largely dominated by coral, primarily composed of partially living laminar and crustose forms belonging to the genus Agaricia, though only identified to the genus level.
Álvarez-León (2003, 2006), in a study carried out between October 1984 and December 1985, sampled eight stations within the CGSM complex, confirming the presence of Calyptospadix cerulea.
As a result, nine species representing eight genera, seven families, and three orders have been confirmed for the Cnidaria group in the CGSM Ecoregion.
