27 families, 57 genera, 73 species
Of the seven documents categorized under this topic, only three record the presence of macroalgae at the Banco de las Ánimas Reef, located in the Gulf of Salamanca within the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta Ecoregion. Blanco et al. (1994) were the first to report on the reef, conducting investigations between October 1991 and March 1992. Their findings revealed a bottom covered with calcareous algae nodules belonging to the genera Lithothamnion and Neogoniolithon (formerly Gonolithon). Bula-Meyer & Díaz-Pulido (1995) collected samples in November 1991 and September 1994, identifying 40 species. Cabarcas & García-Urueña, as cited by Rocío et al. (2020, Table 6), sampled the area from April to November 2017 and documented 42 species identified to species level. In total, 73 species from 57 genera and 27 families are currently known at the Banco de las Ánimas Reef.
