Range Description: This snake is found in the lowlands of both slopes of Panama, at elevations extending from sea level to 360 metres asl (Jaramillo et al. 2010). It ranges southward into Colombia and Venezuela (including Isla Margarita and archipelagos Los Testigos and Los Frailes) (Ugueto and Rivas 2010). It occurs also in Brazil, in the states of Pará and Tocantins (Montingelli and Zaher 2011, ICMBio Brazilian Snake Specialist Group 2013) and in Suriname. Records from Peru are doubtful (G. Rivas pers. comm. 2013). In Colombia, the elevational range extends from 20 to 1,200 m (W. Bolivar, P. D. Gutiérrez-Cárdenas, and G. Rivas pers. comm. 2013).
