Este fotolibro es un recorrido por la Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta a través de las aguas, los oficios y las memorias. Describe su equilibrio hídrico, la relación entre río, mar y Sierra Nevada, y permite ver las transformaciones causadas por la explotación intensiva de recursos. El valle de las cien aguas retrata la vida cotidiana de las comunidades de pescadores artesanales y palafíticas por medio de escenas de pesca, navegación, comercio, salinas y tradición oral. Aquí se integran procesos ecológicos, como la muerte de mucha parte del manglar, y episodios de violencia, como la masacre de Nueva Venecia. Al terminar este viaje, esperamos que ustedes también, como nosotros, se hayan podido mirar en este espejo de agua dulce y salada.
This photo book takes readers on a journey through the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta via its waters, livelihoods, and memories. It describes the area’s water balance and the relationship between the river, the sea, and the Sierra Nevada, while highlighting the transformations caused by the intensive exploitation of resources. The Valley of a hundred waters portrays the daily life of artisanal and stilt-house fishing communities through scenes of fishing, navigation, trade, salt flats, and oral tradition. It integrates ecological processes, such as the death of much of the mangrove forest, and episodes of violence, such as the Nueva Venecia massacre. As this journey comes to an end, we hope that you, like us, have been able to see yourselves reflected in this mirror of fresh and salt water.
