Range Description: The range of this species includes lowlands and adjacent premontane slopes from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Mexico, on the Pacific slope, through northeastern Guatemala on the Caribbean side, and southward to Colombia and Venezuela. This species has been reported to occur in Guyana and the Lesser Antilles, but it does not occur in those areas (G. Rivas pers. comm. 2013). The known elevational range of Gymnophthalmus. speciosus extends from near sea level to 1,320 meters (Savage 2002, Wilson and Johnson 2010).
