Range Description: This species occurs in the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad, Tobago, Aruba, Curaçao, Margarita, Coche, Cubagua, Los Frailes, Los Testigos, Los Roques, and La Tortuga. Its distribution also extends from northern mainland Venezuela to northeastern Colombia (departments of La Guajira, Magdalena, and Cesar) (Persaud et al. 2003, Rivas et al. 2012, Suárez 2013, Uetz and Hallermann 2013). It also occurs in Guyana at Georgetown and Rockstone Landing (Meilink et al. 2013). Its elevational range extends from sea level to 1,100 metres asl. It has been introduced to French Guiana, where a very localized but established population was recently discovered in Cayenne (2010) (M. Dewynter unpubl. data). It is a recent arrival in Tobago; it is unknown whether this represents natural dispersal or a human introduction. It is an exotic species on Curaçao; recorded populations on this island have been observed to disappear with time, possibly as a result of competition with native species (G. van Buurt pers. comm. 2016), and it is not listed as being currently extant on this island by van Buurt (2005). It is thought likely to be an introduction on Aruba (van Buurt 2005).
